Free Stuff? First give me a free Medical Cover

Just the other day, I walked into a supermarket, which happens to have at least one branch on every street in town. My sole purpose was to buy toothpaste, and not chat with the sales ladies there, as my friend usually does, in the disguise that his non existent girlfriend send him for a pack of pads and he wants her advice on the best. I was buying toothpaste after my friends disapproved my method of disinfecting all water that I use for cooking and drinking with waterguard, and then not brushing my teeth since I didn’t imbibe any germs. So I approached the section that hosts the toothpastes and associated stuff.

As I was trying to decide whether the manufacturer of a certain toothpaste had signed as performance contract, I was approached by one of the sales ladies. She proceeded to say that she was offering a certain toothpaste, manufactured in Tanzania, for 67% the price of the other toothpastes. As if not enough, she would offer the toothpaste with a free toothbrush (I forgot to ask her why I would be buying toothpaste if I had no toothbrush).

Furthermore, she would add another small free pack of toothpaste on this offer. At this point, I had to stop my friend, mentioned above, from asking if she too was part of the offer. After arriving home and scrutinizing the offer, I found out that the smaller toothpaste was due to expire in less that 30 days, and of course any effects after that are only yours to blame!

Beers in Kenya: A sober opinion

Miss Kerigo : Why so serious?

Sorry for using a Wikipedia image, but after going through my few photos from Primary school, other than spotting don't-touch-my ankle trousers which exposed my red socks, I also look high in most of them. Beers of Kenya. The Ultimate 2019 Guide

Four years ago, precisely in 2015, I wrote about beer in Kenya in what has gone on to be my most popular post this year with more than 5,000 people reading it. It seems that there is a lot of interest in exploring beer in Kenya, which is understandable. The brewing sector has grown since then and we now have lots of options, which means it is time for another review. Back in 2015, Kenya had one major brewer - EABL/KBL, challenged by Keroche and Sierra which is more of a small volume craft brewer, and arguably Kenya’s first craft brewery. It had also been joined by Brew Bistro which mostly sells its malted stuff at its outlets in Nairobi and later by Sirville, a bar located at Galleria Mall. Sirville was later sold to Brew Bistro and converted to the latter for a while, before shutting down in what is alleged to be a tax dispute.

It's 2025, and you asked for yet another Kenyan beer review. Let's cut straight to the chase - we keep the many stories for once we are drunk. Right? This year we categorize the beers according to breweries. Bila Shaka / Bateleur Flagship is Bila Shaka which is a rich flavoured but bitter IPA with 6% volume. They focus more on quality and experimenting. Home to many pleasantly (sweet per 2 people. I agree) favoured beers like Dire Straits, and for the ladies who love it a lot on the sweeter side, there's Honey Badger. These come in at about 5% or so. Jua Kali isn't as sweet as the above and is a mixed rice and barley beer, for some reason popular in the hot coast. Capitan is their bar beer and is a light-ish, pleasant beer at 4% volume and a good time passer when you're there for a long and good night and have things to do the next day. What's the best place to have Brisket in Nairobi? What's even brisket? Brisket is one of the toughest cuts in a cow, from around the belly. It is so tough that it has to be smoked for about 16 hours to tenderise. But that there, is the catch. 12 to 16 hours later, it is the most flavourful and softest cut you will ever have. So full of flavour and so soft you can pick it apart with your fingers. However, due to the long cooking time involved, only a few places offer brisket in Nairobi.
