Thika Road circa 2030




Kenya has been headed for greater heights, ever since the coming of Barrack Obama. In fact, this product has been very helpful in marketing the country abroad,and in transformation of various places overnight. An example of such a place is Kogelo, which was considered to be so remote that the Rural Electrification Board did not cover it. Overnight, the sleepy village(as a journalist likes to refer to it[maybe one of those sex_for_jobs journalists]) has been transformed to a top priority electrification site, and has already been electrified.

Maybe, as we may be led to believe, it has nothing to do with Kenyan men spreading their fruits elsewhere(and bearing future senators). It may be as a result of a iRRI(intermittent Rapid Results Initiative. The RRI(iRRI), has been responsible for such other developments, such as Police riding in normal cars (other than mechanized carriages once known as Mahindra), disappearances of Maize stocks, Fuel disappearances, KPLC blackouts etc.

Amongst one of the best products of the iRRI, is the proposed Thika Road Expansion, as shown above. This Road will be complete by 2030. Phases in the construction of this road -needles to say- will be carried out intermittently, by Cowboy contractors. Phase one, which is complete, included creation of wide spaces next to the road in some select areas, such as "Roasters" and the "Roysambu" roundabout. due to the intermittent nature of this program, we do not know when the next phase will be carried out, but be assured, it will be soon and sudden. Four years ago, precisely in 2015, I wrote about beer in Kenya in what has gone on to be my most popular post this year with more than 5,000 people reading it. It seems that there is a lot of interest in exploring beer in Kenya, which is understandable. The brewing sector has grown since then and we now have lots of options, which means it is time for another review. Back in 2015, Kenya had one major brewer - EABL/KBL, challenged by Keroche and Sierra which is more of a small volume craft brewer, and arguably Kenya’s first craft brewery. It had also been joined by Brew Bistro which mostly sells its malted stuff at its outlets in Nairobi and later by Sirville, a bar located at Galleria Mall. Sirville was later sold to Brew Bistro and converted to the latter for a while, before shutting down in what is alleged to be a tax dispute.

This year we categorize the beers according to breweries.  Bila Shaka / Bateleur  Flagship is Bila Shaka which is a rich flavoured but bitter IPA with 6% volume.  They focus more on quality and experimenting.  Home to many pleasantly (sweet per 2 people. I agree) favoured beers like Dire Straits, and for the ladies who love it a lot on the sweeter side, there's Honey Badger. These come in at about 5% or so. What's even brisket?  Brisket is one of the toughest cuts in a cow, from around the belly. It is so tough that it has to be smoked for about 16 hours to tenderise. But that there, is the catch.  12 to 16 hours later, it is the most flavourful and softest cut you will ever have. So full of flavour and so soft you can pick it apart with your fingers.  However, due to the long cooking time involved, only a few places offer brisket in Nairobi.  The best so far is Texas Brisket which is located within Kikuyu Railway station.  They do the meat for a proper 16 hours, and will usually have a fatty or non-fatty portion.
